Questions, answered.

What DRI is, how it installs, and what the field data actually showed. Don't see your question? Reach out and we'll answer it directly.

What is Deep Root Irrigation (DRI)?
DRI is a small, durable device that connects to the emitter you already run and channels water — and liquid fertilizer — straight down into the root zone, sealed off from the air, the sun, and the surface. Instead of pooling on top where it evaporates or runs off, the water is delivered where roots actually take it up.
How much water can DRI actually save?
In the INIFAP three-year government trial on mature pecan trees, DRI used 66% less water than the micro-sprinkler system that runs most pecan orchards in Mexico, and roughly 41% less than the drip systems and standard sprinklers in the same trial — with comparable yield and nut quality. Because pumping energy tracks water volume, that's a similar drop in your largest irrigation cost.
Does it work with my existing irrigation system?
Yes. DRI attaches to the emitter you already have — there's no system to rip out and no parts to replace. It's an add-on to your current drip or micro-sprinkler setup, not a replacement for it.
How long does it take to install?
Each unit goes into the ground in about 30 to 60 seconds. It's built to be installed across large-acre orchards and vineyards quickly, by the crews already working your rows.
Which crops is DRI built for?
Orchards, vineyards, and tree-nut operations — including pecans, the crop measured in the INIFAP trial. The same direct-delivery principle works from newly established plantings to mature heritage trees.
Which unit do I need?
DRI comes in four sizes: DRI-3 for potted plants and young starts, DRI-6 for bush and cane crops, DRI-12 for vines and tree crops (the flagship measured by INIFAP), and DRI-18 for mature heritage trees in landscape environments. Tell us your crop and planting and we'll match the right size.
Can I run fertilizer through it?
Yes. Water and liquid fertilizer travel down the same sealed channel to the root zone, so nutrients are delivered deep alongside the water rather than left on the surface.
Is DRI actually proven, or is this a brochure claim?
It's independently measured. INIFAP — Mexico's National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research — ran a side-by-side trial of five irrigation systems on 60-plus-year-old pecan trees in Jiménez, Chihuahua, with results presented at the 2024 Pecan Conference. DRI has been in market since 2014 and was named a World Ag Expo Top 10 New Product in 2015.
How durable is it?
DRI units are built to last and to withstand the demands of large-acre orchard and vineyard operations. The product went through years of field testing before reaching the market in 2014.
How do I buy, and what does it cost?
Pricing depends on your crop, acreage, and unit. We offer volume and distributor pricing — request a quote, call (319) 750-2400, or ask your crop advisor about DRI.
